UK government launches investigation over appointment of independent regulator in the Premier League

The independent regulator in the Premier League currently oversees, among other things, the process of club sales, but even this body sometimes faces its own challenges.
Details: According to The Athletic, concerns have arisen regarding the selection of the regulator's new chair, David Kogan. He was not on the initial shortlist of candidates, but was recommended by Secretary of State Lisa Nandy due to his extensive experience negotiating television rights deals on behalf of the Premier League, the English Football League, and the Women's Super League.

Now William Shawcross, the Commissioner for Public Appointments, has sent a letter to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, but has decided not to wait for other bodies and instead launch his own investigation. In April, Nandy named Kogan as her candidate for the regulator chair, and on May 9 it was revealed he is the preferred candidate, with the DCMS report acknowledging "his vast experience in the football and media sectors."
Reminder: It was the regulator, among other factors, that delayed the sale of Everton to the Friedkin family.
