The world of sports has suffered an irreparable loss.
Details: According to the BBC, legendary Italian racer and Paralympic champion Alex Zanardi has died at the age of 59. He began his career in Formula 1, making his debut in 1991 with the Jordan team, and later became a two-time champion of the prestigious American CART series.
Alex's life changed forever on September 15, 2001, during a race at the Lausitzring circuit in Germany. After a horrific crash that literally tore his car in half, he survived clinical death and spent four days in a coma. Doctors miraculously saved his life, but due to the severity of his injuries, Zanardi had both legs amputated. What could have ended his sporting career instead became the start of an even more inspiring new chapter.
Displaying extraordinary determination, Alex returned to sport as a para-cyclist. He won four gold medals at the Paralympic Games in London (2012) and Rio de Janeiro (2016), proving to the world that human potential knows no bounds.
The Dailysports editorial team extends its condolences to Zanardi's family and loved ones.
