Kazuyoshi Miura continues to defy the odds and has once again shattered his own historic record. The Japanese football legend has kicked off his 41st professional season, marking his return to his homeland.
Miura has joined Fukushima United, a club competing in Japan’s third-tier division. While his contract rights are still held by Yokohama, the veteran hasn’t played for them since 2021, spending recent seasons out on loan.
On February 7, the 58-year-old striker took the pitch in the season opener against Kofu. Miura played 20 minutes before being substituted, setting a new milestone. At 58 years and 346 days old, Kazuyoshi became the oldest professional footballer ever. Notably, the previous record also belonged to him.
Let’s recall, Miura’s football journey began back in 1986 with Brazil’s Santos. Since then, he’s suited up for numerous clubs in Brazil and Japan and even had a stint in Europe. Beyond his club career, he’s renowned for his contributions to the Japanese national team, where he netted 55 goals in international play.
