Alexander “Cacique” Medina has become the latest managerial casualty in Argentina’s volatile football landscape, stepping down from his role at Talleres following a 1–0 defeat to São Paulo in the Copa Libertadores. The club announced the departure as a mutual decision. With Medina’s exit, ten coaches have now left their positions just eleven matchdays into the 2025 Apertura season. This trend was highlighted in a report by TyC Sports.

What makes Medina’s case particularly surprising is that less than a month ago he led Talleres to victory in the Supercopa Internacional, beating River Plate in a penalty shootout in Asunción. Yet recent poor form and an underwhelming continental debut overshadowed his earlier success.

This swift coaching turnover reflects the unforgiving pace of Argentine football. Among the other managers to exit this season are Marcelo Méndez (Gimnasia), Facundo Sava (Atlético Tucumán), Walter Erviti (Belgrano), Adolfo Pedernera (Godoy Cruz), Mariano Soso (Newell’s), Sebastián Domínguez (Vélez), Andrés Yllana (Aldosivi), and Raúl Antuña (San Martín de San Juan). Cristian Fabbiani also left Riestra to replace Soso at Newell’s.

The short-term mindset in Argentine clubs—driven by constant competition, intense fan expectations, and limited patience from leadership—has turned coaching into a revolving door. With the season just past its midpoint, more changes could be on the horizon.
