The Boehly era at Chelsea is nearing its end: Clearlake preparing to take full control of the club
Todd Boehly and Mark Walter are close to selling their stakes in Chelsea, Bloomberg reports. If the deal goes through, investment firm Clearlake Capital, led by Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano, will gain almost full control of the London club.
Clearlake currently owns 61.5% of Chelsea's shares, while the remaining 38.5% is divided equally between Boehly, Walter and Hansjörg Wyss. The BlueCo consortium bought the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022 for £2.5 billion, with a commitment to invest a further £1.75 billion.
Serious disagreements have emerged between the co-owners recently, particularly over sporting strategy and the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge. According to the source, talks over changing the ownership structure have intensified in recent weeks.
A representative for Walter confirmed that a potential deal values his stake at a premium to his initial investment. However, the businessman was not the driving force behind the sale and intends to continue investing in the sports industry.
