South Africa’s number one, Lloyd Harris, had failed to clear the opening round at his last four Grand Slam appearances, but that streak of misfortune has finally come to an end.

Details: The 27-year-old South African delivered a commanding performance in the first round of Wimbledon, dispatching his Belgian opponent Zizou Bergs with authority. The first three sets were decided by tiebreaks, where Harris had more luck. However, he managed to win the fourth set without the need for a tiebreak. In it, the South African defeated the ATP world No. 50 and claimed a 3–1 victory.

Harris’s next opponent will be determined in the clash between “neutral” Andrey Rublev and Serbia’s Laslo Djere.

Recall: Another “neutral” tennis player, Daniil Medvedev, caused a stir as well—he once again bowed out in the opening round of a Grand Slam tournament.
