Details: According to Madrid Xtra, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco held multiple meetings with JJ Gabriel’s family and agent in September 2026 in an effort to convince the 16-year-old to join the club. The Catalan giants saw the young forward as one of the biggest prospects of the last decade.
JJ Gabriel, who made his Manchester United debut in a pre-season friendly at the age of 15, has long been drawn to Real Madrid, a club he has idolized since childhood. Despite Barcelona’s persistent interest, the teenager has shown no signs of wavering in his commitment to the Spanish capital’s most storied team.
Real Madrid have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the player for a potential move in January 2027, with the club preparing to take advantage of a FIFA loophole that allows EU passport holders to sign young players. JJ Gabriel is eligible for a European passport through both of his parents, which could facilitate the transfer.
Juni Calafat has played a central role in the entire process, maintaining close contact with Gabriel’s family and agent from the very beginning. His efforts have ensured that Real Madrid remain in the driver’s seat as the player’s preferred destination.
