Samuel Eto’o reportedly positioning to succeed Motsepe at CAF
The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation is said to be interested in the presidency of the Confederation of African Football.
Samuel Eto’o’s name is doing the rounds in the corridors of power within African football. According to The Guardian, the former Cameroonian international is positioning himself to replace Patrice Motsepe at the helm of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to the British newspaper, Motsepe’s leadership is under increasing pressure. Officials across the continent are said to have lost confidence in him. Against this backdrop, several potential rivals, including the former Cameroonian striker, are reportedly positioning themselves for a possible succession.
These contenders are said to be seeking the endorsement of Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, should Motsepe be forced to step down.
Samuel Eto’o is, however, not the only one eyeing the presidency of the Confederation of African Football. According to The Guardian, Ahmed Yahya (Mauritanian Football Federation), Yacine Idriss Diallo (Ivorian Football Federation) and Souleiman Waberi (Djibouti) are also said to be interested in succeeding Motsepe.
