Official! Fenerbahce appoint new head coach
Fenerbahce have finally ended their search for a new head coach by bringing a familiar figure back to Istanbul.
Details: The Turkish giants have officially announced the appointment of 46-year-old Emre Belözoğlu as their new head coach. The club confirmed the agreement through Türkiye's Public Disclosure Platform and welcomed the specialist back on its official website. According to A Spor, Belözoğlu has signed an 18-month contract.
Belözoğlu arrives from Kasimpasa, who have already officially announced the departure of the coach and his staff. He replaces İsmail Kartal, whose exit forced Fenerbahce to search for a permanent replacement, with Dirk Kuyt taking temporary charge of the team.
Interestingly, the Istanbul club had previously been negotiating with Sérgio Conceição. However, the Portuguese manager rejected the opportunity, preferring to wait for an offer from one of Europe's top five leagues.
This will not be Belözoğlu's first experience on the Fenerbahce bench. The former midfielder previously managed the team in 2021, recording seven victories, two draws and just one defeat in ten matches.
The appointment comes at a particularly important moment, with Fenerbahce preparing to face Liverpool in the Champions League on November 4. The Turkish club are still searching for their first victory in the competition this season.
It is worth noting that Kasimpasa collected 17 points from their opening ten Turkish Super Lig matches under Belözoğlu this season, placing fifth in the standings.
