Samuel Eto’o defends Kylian Mbappé against racist attacks during the 2026 World Cup
The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation has condemned the racist remarks recently directed at the French striker and called for collective awareness.
Samuel Eto’o has reacted to comments attributed to a Paraguayan senator. In an interview with Le Parisien, the former Cameroonian striker stated that it was unacceptable for a player of Kylian Mbappé’s stature to still be targeted because of his origins or the colour of his skin.
“The comments he has recently been subjected to, particularly those attributed to a Paraguayan senator, must give us all pause for thought. In 2026, it is painful and deeply regrettable that a champion of his calibre can still be judged or attacked because of his origins or the colour of his skin.
And it is legitimate to ask a question, even if it is uncomfortable: do Kylian’s mixed heritage, his origins and what he represents in French society influence, consciously or unconsciously, the way in which some people judge his career, his personality and his views?”
