Riyad Mahrez makes African football history at the World Cup
He pulled off a remarkable feat against Austria
The Algerian forward has etched his name alongside Roger Milla.
Riyad Mahrez distinguished himself with a resounding brace against Austria on 28 June during the final matchday of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. At 35 years and 4 months, Mahrez scored two goals in this decisive match.
Thanks to this performance, the Fennecs captain has become the second-oldest African player in history to score a brace in a World Cup match. He ranks behind former Cameroonian international Roger Milla, who achieved this feat twice during the 1990 World Cup, at the age of 38.
