Repetto Rumors Shut Down as Célico Remains Confident at Emelec

As Emelec struggles to find wins in the Ecuadorian LigaPro, rumors began swirling about Pablo Repetto potentially replacing Jorge Célico as manager. However, Célico himself addressed the speculation in an interview with La Radio Redonda, ruling out the idea due to his personal ties with the Uruguayan coach. “Pablo is a close friend, so I know those rumors aren’t real,” he said, effectively dismissing Repetto as a candidate.
According to Fútbol Ecuador, Emelec has now gone four matches unbeaten but remains winless in their last three. Despite only securing one victory in eight league games this season, club executives continue to support Célico, at least for now. The team faces a crucial clash against Deportivo Cuenca, and a positive result could stabilize their campaign.
Célico's contract runs through 2025, and terminating it early would cost Emelec around $75,000—an expense the club is unlikely to take on amid financial limitations. Instead, the focus remains on improving squad depth and climbing out of the relegation group. For now, Célico stays in charge, with results being the only currency that matters.
