Chelsea and Leeds played out a draw in their Matchweek 26 Premier League encounter, but a controversial moment during the game prompted an official explanation from the league.
Details: In the 73rd minute, Leeds found the back of the net, but the officials reviewed a potential handball in the build-up involving a Leeds player. Replays clearly showed the player controlling the ball with his hand, yet the referee allowed the goal to stand.
The Premier League stated that had the player who ultimately scored the goal handled the ball, the strike would have been disallowed. However, since Bogle’s touch of the ball with his hand was deemed accidental, it did not constitute an offence. Moreover, as Bogle was not the goalscorer, no infringement of the rules was identified.
Reminder: It is worth noting that in this match João Pedro also got on the scoresheet, managing to write his name into Premier League history among Brazilian players.
