Olimpia Crash Out of All Competitions After Disastrous First Half of 2025

Olimpia's hopes for 2025 have crumbled on all fronts. As reported by Versus, the Paraguayan giants have been mathematically eliminated from the Apertura title race and are set to exit the Copa Libertadores as bottom of their group—missing out on even a Copa Sudamericana spot.
The season began with lofty goals: international progression, domestic silverware, and a squad built for success. But after a coaching change from Martín Palermo to Fabián Bustos, results never arrived. Their Libertadores campaign was particularly dire; not only did they fail to qualify for the knockout stages, they also lost any shot at third place. The final match is now reduced to a formality—with only the $300,000 per-win CONMEBOL prize as consolation.
The latest setback came after a loss in Pedro Juan Caballero, officially ruling them out of the Apertura title, a tournament that, ironically, bears the name of Olimpia’s legendary president Osvaldo Domínguez Dibb.
Beyond the sporting disappointment, the consequences could be severe for the club’s fragile financial situation. Olimpia must now reassess its direction, as this failed semester leaves no room for spin or mitigation.
