NHL changes player equipment rules! Now even safer

The league has decided to significantly increase player safety following the tragic death of Adam Johnson.
Details: The NHL has approved a new rule—neck protection will become a mandatory part of player equipment. However, there is a caveat: this innovation applies only to league rookies. Veteran players with NHL experience will be allowed to opt out of wearing neck guards.
The rules regarding equipment have been updated before. For instance, in 1979, helmets became mandatory, and since 2013, all league rookies are required to play with visors.
This latest measure comes in response to the heartbreaking loss of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Adam Johnson. During a game, an opponent’s skate blade cut his neck—a wound that, tragically, proved fatal.
Additionally, this rule will be mandatory for all participants in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Reminder: The NHL and the players' union have announced the return of the World Cup of Hockey
