Mohammed Kallon, a football star from Sierra Leone, has been named the new national team coach. His appointment was confirmed by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) on Wednesday.
Considered by many to be the best player in the nation, Kallon had a prosperous career with teams like Inter Milan, Monaco, and Genoa. He scored more than 115 goals and received 39 caps for Sierra Leone.
Kallon will serve as head coach and guide the squad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tournaments. The pivotal World Cup qualifying matches against Guinea-Bissau and Egypt in March 2025 will be his first test.
Kallon has already named a 25-man squad for a training camp, including five players from FC Kallon and star forward Musa Noah Kamara. Training begins in Freetown on Tuesday.
Sierra Leone currently sits fourth in Group A with five points, trailing leaders Egypt, who have ten points. The group winner secures a direct spot at the 2026 World Cup.
