Rodri alternative. Real Madrid prepare €70m for Premier League midfielder
Real Madrid could return to the possibility of signing Martín Zubimendi during the January transfer window. According to Sport, the Madrid club have begun preparations for the winter market and are considering the Arsenal midfielder as a priority option to strengthen their midfield.
Real Madrid are reportedly looking to rectify their mistake after failing to sign Rodri in the summer. The Spanish midfielder ultimately chose to join Barcelona, and Madrid are now ready to reconsider their approach to investing in a central midfielder. It is reported that a move for Zubimendi could cost at least €70 million.
The player's situation at Arsenal is an additional factor in favour of the deal. This season, Zubimendi has lost his place in the starting XI and has come off the bench in all five of the team's competitive matches. This included the Champions League clash with Napoli, when the Spaniard was given only a few minutes on the pitch.
Zubimendi joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad and was considered an important part of Mikel Arteta's team last season. However, his role gradually diminished over the course of the campaign, while the arrival of Bruno Guimarães has increased competition for a place in central midfield.
