Mexico national team midfielder Gilberto Mora has set a new age milestone at the World Cup.

Details: At just 17 years and 253 days old, Mora was named in Mexico’s starting lineup for a World Cup match, making him the youngest player in the country’s history to start at the tournament since at least 1954.

What’s more, Mora is the youngest footballer to start a match at this year’s tournament.

Previously, the youngest World Cup starter in the 21st century was Femi Opabunmi, who played for Nigeria against England in 2002 at the age of 17 years and 101 days.

This World Cup opportunity is a huge vote of confidence in the young Mexican talent and marks a pivotal moment in his budding career.

Reminder: Earlier, we reported that Brazil’s national team reached the World Cup playoffs for the 11th consecutive time, thrashing Scotland 3-0.
