First time since 2014! Rúben Amorim matches a rare Milan feat
Rúben Amorim could hardly have asked for a better start to his Serie A adventure with Milan.
Details: The Portuguese coach has won his first two Serie A matches in charge of the Rossoneri, becoming the first Milan manager since Filippo Inzaghi in 2014 to achieve the feat after taking over at the start of a league season. Amorim began with a 2-1 away victory over Torino before following it up with a 2-0 home win against Venezia.
Milan had to work for their second victory. The first half against Venezia ended goalless, but the hosts eventually broke the resistance of their opponents in the 69th minute. Gonçalo Ramos finished Alexis Saelemaekers' pass to score his first competitive goal for Milan, before Redouane Halhal's own goal in the 89th minute sealed the 2-0 result.
The two victories have given Amorim a perfect six points from his opening two Serie A fixtures, with Milan scoring four goals and conceding only once. The Rossoneri will now turn their attention to a much tougher test: an away meeting with Juventus on September 6.
It is worth noting that in the three-points-for-a-win era, only Alberto Zaccheroni in 1998 and Filippo Inzaghi in 2014 had previously won their first two Serie A matches as Milan coaches after starting a season in charge. Amorim has now become the third man on that list and the first to do so in 12 years.
