Eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao appeared as a special guest during an MMA tournament at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan yesterday, on the eve of the New Year.

RIZIN CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara, orchestrating the event, invited Pacquiao into the ring and inquired about a potential bout with Mayweather next year, to which the Filipino responded with just two words:

"I'm ready."

Pacquiao then hinted at a "big fight" set for next year but refrained from disclosing his opponent's name until Sakakibara revealed what many wanted to hear:

"Next year, I hope to see you here in Japan for a big fight against... Floyd Mayweather. I guess you don't want me to say it."

To this, Pacquiao replied:

"I'm very excited about that."

Recalling their bout in 2015, the most lucrative match in history, Mayweather claimed victory by unanimous decision while Pacquiao mentioned a shoulder injury.

Pacquiao retired in September 2021 after a points loss to Yordenis Ugas but recently confirmed his return to the ring. The 45-year-old Filipino will face Muay Thai and kickboxing legend Buakaw in Thailand on April 20 before pursuing a rematch with Mayweather.

This announcement of Pacquiao's return comes just days after UFC superstar Conor McGregor revealed negotiations for his return to the octagon in 2024.
