Manchester United have announced the move for Newcastle's sporting director

One of the longest transfer sagas of this summer in England has finally come to an end.

Manchester United has officially announced that Dan Ashworth has been appointed as the club's new sporting director, moving to Old Trafford.

Ashworth is expected to immediately take up his duties in Manchester United's revamped structure, reporting directly to Sir Dave Brailsford of INEOS.

Negotiations between Manchester United and Newcastle over Ashworth lasted more than four months, with both parties struggling to agree on the compensation amount.

It is worth noting that the "Red Devils" finished eighth in the Premier League last season, but they won the FA Cup and secured a spot in the Europa League.
