Stewards reprimanded Verstappen during his first conflict with Norris at the Austrian GP
During the Austrian Grand Prix main race, there was a collision between Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris. However, as reported by PlanetF1, there was also a conflict between the two drivers the day before. Verstappen obstructed Norris during his first pit stop. Verstappen was cleared to exit the pits on lap 24, while Norris was entering the pit lane for the first of his two stops. It was during this moment that Max interfered with Lando.
Stewards reviewed the incident due to "alleged unsafe release by Verstappen" and couldn't rule out that Verstappen had indeed obstructed Norris. McLaren's onboard footage clearly showed Norris having to brake slightly to avoid a collision with Verstappen, which Norris communicated to his team over the radio.
"He came straight into me! I couldn't turn right into the box," Norris stated to his team over the radio.
Typically, such actions result in a five-second penalty. However, it was ultimately decided that Verstappen would escape punishment for a maneuver that could have jeopardized his race well before the series of dramatic events that led to the Verstappen-Norris contact on lap 64 and Norris's subsequent retirement from the race.
