"It is right to question himself". Buffon is not sure about his future in the Italian national team
The legendary former goalkeeper of the Italian national team, Gianluigi Buffon, who is now the head of the national team's delegation, expressed doubts about his future with the Italian Football Federation after the Azzurri's elimination from Euro 2024.
The legendary goalkeeper did not hide his disappointment with Italy's performance in the tournament and believes that "everyone involved is to blame" for the failure.
"After what happened, I only asked, as usual, to conduct a general analysis to assess the logical conditions for looking to the future. I was not dissatisfied with the game against Switzerland, but the internal problem here is much more serious. And as someone who has never been afraid and has never hidden from responsibility, I think it's right to ask myself questions," Buffon is quoted as saying by tuttomercatoweb.
Buffon has a short-term contract with the national team that expires at the end of July, and his future inevitably depends on discussions with the Football Federation.
Upon returning to Italy, Buffon expressed his disappointment:
"Our team could have performed better, as could all of us: even I in my role may have failed to meet expectations, and everyone bears responsibility for this performance."
It should be noted that the reigning European champions from 2020 exited the tournament after losing to Switzerland (0-1) in the Round of 16.
