In the summer of 2025, the revamped Club World Cup will be held in the USA, featuring 32 teams. FIFA may implement new rules for this tournament.
Details: SkySports journalist Kaveh Solhekol reported that clubs are required to field their strongest available squads for the World Cup. Additionally, any club that refuses to participate will be fined £445,000. Furthermore, owners cannot hold shares in more than one club.
Other possible rules for the Club World Cup include:
- Teams must arrive at the tournament camp 3-5 days before their first match.
- Preliminary club rosters will consist of 26-50 players, with the tournament roster narrowed to 26-35 players.
- Football federations will have a special transfer window from June 1-10.
- Between June 7 and July 3, clubs may add a maximum of 2 players to their squads.
- Players are allowed to play for only one team.
Reminder: Despite these potential rules, FIFA has yet to determine the prize money for the Club World Cup participants.
By the way, La Liga president Javier Tebas called on FIFA president Gianni Infantino to cancel the Club World Cup, arguing that sponsors are reluctant to invest in the tournament. He added that using organizational funds for a tournament criticized by players and coaches would be an unwise decision.
