The Pakistan national cricket team will not take the field for their group stage match against India at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. This development was announced in a statement published on the official social media page of the Government of Pakistan on X. However, the statement did not specify the exact reasons behind this decision.
The authorities confirmed they had granted the national team permission to travel to Sri Lanka for the tournament, but specifically emphasized that Pakistan would not play the match scheduled on February 15, 2026, against India.
Pakistan's participation in the tournament became a focal point after Bangladesh was excluded from the World Cup on January 24 for refusing to play in India due to security concerns. Pakistan openly supported Bangladesh's position and accused the ICC of double standards, stating that the final decision on the team's participation should rest with the country's government.
Despite rumors of a full tournament boycott, Pakistan announced its squad within the ICC's set deadlines, indirectly confirming its intention to compete at the World Cup. Ultimately, the authorities appear to have opted for a compromise—boycotting only the match against India. As of now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to send an official notice of boycott to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
