Millwall – Wrexham: Can the Hosts Continue Their Perfect Start?
On 2 September, Millwall will host Wrexham at the legendary Den in the fourth round of the Championship. The two teams head into the meeting in completely different moods. The Lions have won both of their opening league matches, while the Welsh side are still searching for their first victory and have collected just two points after three rounds.
Millwall's start has been genuinely impressive. In the opening round, the team comfortably beat Bristol City 2-0 away from home before thrashing Norwich 3-0 at home in the second round. The Londoners looked very solid in both matches and have yet to concede a single goal in the league. On top of that, Millwall also progressed in the League Cup by beating Cambridge United 1-0.

Therefore, ahead of their match against Southampton on 29 August, Millwall had taken six points from six and boasted a goal difference of 5-0. That is why the team entered the season as one of the most pleasant surprises of the opening rounds. However, the meeting with Southampton could change a lot: if the Londoners drop points, they will no longer arrive for the Wrexham match with a perfect record. The demanding trip to St Mary's could also affect the team's physical condition.
Wrexham, meanwhile, have had a much tougher time. Phil Parkinson's side began the season with draws against Cardiff and Watford, with both matches ending 1-1. Their third outing brought a first defeat, however, as Wrexham lost 2-1 at home to Birmingham on 28 August. The Welsh side levelled the score in the second half thanks to Callum Doyle, but then conceded again and were unable to rescue the match. After three rounds, they have just two points.
Wrexham's main problem so far has been a lack of consistency. The team can create chances and fight for results, but too often allows the opposition to take control of the game. Their problems from set pieces were particularly evident against Birmingham, with defender Phil Neumann scoring both of the visitors' goals from corners. That will certainly give Parkinson something to think about ahead of the trip to London.
At the same time, Wrexham should not be written off. The club continues to build an ambitious project following its rapid rise through the English football pyramid, and this season represents another test of whether they belong at Championship level. The team has retained its core, while Parkinson himself knows perfectly well how to navigate difficult spells during a campaign.
Interestingly, these opponents met in the Championship quite recently. In February 2026, Millwall travelled to Wales and beat Wrexham 2-0. The hosts will therefore undoubtedly remember that match and will look to repeat the result on home soil.
On paper, the advantage is clearly with Millwall at the moment. The team did not concede in their first two league matches, scored confidently and look very well organised.
Wrexham, by contrast, will have to find a way to break down one of the most reliable defences in the league.
But there is one important factor — the schedule. Millwall face Southampton on 29 August, leaving the team with only a few days before the meeting with Wrexham. The Welsh side have a similarly demanding schedule, so physical fitness and squad depth could play a huge role.
Ultimately, we are set for an intriguing test of both teams' ambitions. Millwall want to prove that their perfect start is no coincidence and that they are genuinely capable of competing in the upper part of the table. Wrexham, meanwhile, need to step things up: two draws and a defeat are already a worrying sign. If the visitors continue to make defensive mistakes, Millwall will surely take advantage. But if the Welsh side remain disciplined and finally show some character away from home, the hosts will have to work extremely hard to maintain their position among the leaders.
