Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito has once again honored Edgardo Bauza, this time by baptizing their newly renovated high-performance training center after their former coach. The tribute coincided with the 16th anniversary of the club’s 2009 Recopa Sudamericana title, one of several trophies Bauza helped secure.
The club hosted Bauza’s family for a tour of the facilities, showcasing a curated collection of jerseys, medals, footballs, and trophies. Among the highlights were the 2008 Copa Libertadores and a display of columns narrating Bauza’s journey with the club—a reminder of his pivotal role in LDU’s golden era.
This wasn’t the first tribute. In January, during the “White Night” season launch event, LDU had already celebrated Bauza’s contributions. Over two managerial stints spanning seven years, he led the team to two Ecuadorian league titles (2007, 2010), the historic Libertadores win, and the Recopa.
Bauza stepped away from coaching in 2019 due to health concerns. In 2022, his son Maximiliano revealed that he suffers from frontotemporal dementia, and suggested the possibility of chronic traumatic encephalopathy—likely linked to repeated head injuries during his 16-year playing career as a central defender.
With this lasting tribute, LDU Quito not only recognizes Bauza’s tactical brilliance but also cements his legacy as a transformative figure in the club’s identity.
