Argentine manager Marcelo Gallardo will definitely no longer be the head coach of Al-Ittihad next season. This was officially announced by the club's president Loay Naser.

According to the functionary, Gallardo's resignation is due, among other things, to his desire to remove Karim Benzema from the team.

“Gallardo made significant mistakes by requesting the removal of Benzema, which is unacceptable. He is an essential part of Saudi Arabia's and the club's project”.

It was reported today that ex-Milan coach Stefano Pioli is one of the candidates to replace Gallardo.

Gallardo only took charge of Al Ittihad in November last year, replacing Nuno Espiritu Santo. Under his stewardship, the Saudi Arabian 2022/23 champions finished in only fifth place last season.
