Mauricio Sulaiman assessed Pacquiao's opportunity to fight for the WBC title
The President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, commented on the possibility of legendary eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and the possibility of the Filipino competing for a WBC title.
"We have a great precedent for former champions returning if they successfully pass all medical examinations. As a former champion and a legend, he has the opportunity to fight for a WBC title.
I really like this idea. I think Pacquiao can beat any fighter or compete with any fighter today. But if he were to return to the WBC more than two decades after winning his first world title in the flyweight division and then moved up to welterweight in 2024, it would be sensational," Sulaiman told BoxingScene.
On July 28, the boxing event Super Rizin 3 will take place, featuring the legendary Pacquiao.
Initially, PacMan was supposed to box against Japanese MMA fighter Tetsuro Suzuki. However, Suzuki sustained an injury in an exhibition fight against compatriot Takanori Gomi and will miss the July 28 fight.
Nonetheless, the 45-year-old Pacquiao will still participate in the Super Rizin 3 event, with his opponent being another Japanese fighter, kickboxer Rukiya Anpo.
Prior to this, Manny last fought in August 2021, when he lost to Yordenis Ugas by unanimous decision.
