It has been revealed who will be the new captain of Barcelona, replacing Sergi Roberto

Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto has bid farewell to the Catalan club. The defender's contract with the Blaugrana expired in June, and both parties decided not to extend the partnership.

According to Marca, the new captain of the Spanish giants will be German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. He will assume this new role and make his debut as captain in the Joan Gamper Trophy. It's worth noting that any changes regarding the captaincy can only occur if the team decides to hold elections internally.

As a reminder, on May 22, 2014, Marc-André ter Stegen joined Spanish club Barcelona to replace Víctor Valdés, who had left the club. The transfer fee was €12 million, and the goalkeeper signed a five-year contract.

The 32-year-old Sergi Roberto spent his entire career at Barcelona. He has 373 matches, 19 goals, and 43 assists for his home club.

It was previously reported that Sergi Roberto is attracting interest from three La Liga clubs: Valencia, Sevilla, and Girona. He is open to considering all three options, but first wants to wait for offers from the English Premier League.
