FIFA President Gianni Infantino is pushing forward with his proposal to increase the number of participants in the 2030 World Cup to 64 teams. This was reported by French journalist Romain Molina.

According to the source, the initiative is driven not only by sporting considerations, but also by the upcoming FIFA presidential elections. It is claimed that Infantino is seeking the support of African football associations, for whom tournament expansion would mean more qualifying spots at the global showpiece.

Molina also asserts that, in exchange for their support, African officials may demand amendments to the FIFA statutes. According to him, this would allow Infantino to run for another presidential term once his current mandate expires.
