Independiente has secured the signing of Ignacio Pussetto, edging out Huracán in the race to land the Argentine forward. Despite a formal $1.25 million offer from Huracán to Pumas for 50% of his rights, the prior agreement between the Mexican club and Independiente proved decisive.
As part of the deal, defender Álvaro Angulo will move to Pumas. The 28-year-old Colombian, who impressed with five goals in 24 matches this past semester, was key in unlocking the transfer. Pumas will pay $1.5 million in total, though Independiente will receive a smaller portion of that fee while adding Pussetto, who is set to sign a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Huracán had hoped for a third spell with the attacker, who played two stints at the club, scoring 24 goals in 83 matches. But Pussetto chose to join Julio Vaccari’s squad, where he’ll reunite with former teammates Walter Mazzantti and Leo Godoy, both of whom he played with at Huracán and Atlético de Rafaela, respectively.
Expected to arrive in Argentina within the next 48 hours, Pussetto will become Independiente’s third signing of the transfer window. His move was made possible after the club resolved its transfer bans, allowing the forward to officially join the squad.
