The United States national team has etched its name in the history books at the 2026 World Cup, claiming back-to-back wins at the tournament for the first time in 96 years.
Details: Mauricio Pochettino's squad defeated Australia 2-0 in their second group stage match of the 2026 World Cup. Earlier, the Americans had thrashed Paraguay 4-1.
This is the 12th World Cup appearance in U.S. history. Before this tournament, the Americans had managed to win two consecutive World Cup matches only once.
The last time such a streak happened was at the 1930 World Cup, where the United States defeated both Belgium and Paraguay 3-0 in the group stage.
Now, Pochettino's side has not only secured a spot in the playoffs ahead of schedule but also set a new historic milestone for American soccer.
Reminder: The USA defeated Australia 2-0 and became the second team after Mexico to advance to the 2026 World Cup playoffs.
