RIP. Sad loss! Australian football icon Charlie Caruso passes away

Australian football has lost one of its most dedicated and influential community pioneers.

Details: Football Australia has officially announced with profound sorrow the passing of Hall of Fame inductee and Football South Australia Life Member Charlie Caruso. The respected football administrator dedicated decades of selfless service to the development, governance, and promotion of the sport across Australia.

Born in Reggio Calabria, Italy, in 1934, Caruso emigrated to Australia in 1950 and rapidly grew into a cornerstone of South Australian football leadership. He served as president of Juventus Adelaide and Adelaide City, before taking up prominent executive roles within the National Soccer League (NSL) and the South Australian Federation.

Throughout his extensive sporting career, Caruso also represented Australia internationally, serving as the head of delegation for the national youth team during major overseas tournaments and championships.

It is worth noting that Charlie Caruso was officially inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2001 in recognition of his extraordinary and lasting contribution to the domestic game.
