Hervé Renard steps down as Tunisia’s head coach
Appointed in the midst of the 2026 World Cup, the French tactician did not wish to continue his tenure with the Eagles of Carthage.
Hervé Renard had been called in to save the day after Sabri Lamouchi was sacked following Tunisia’s chaotic start to the World Cup currently being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. But the French manager was unable to salvage the Tunisian team’s campaign, as they were knocked out at the group stage.
Whilst the Tunisian Football Federation had been considering offering Hervé Renard a long-term contract, the French tactician decided not to stay. He announced his departure on Saturday 4 July via an Instagram post.
“Before I leave, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the FTF for allowing me to take part in the 2026 World Cup. It was an honour to represent Tunisia and to have this unforgettable experience.
I wish the Tunisian team all the best for the future. I am convinced that they will continue to grow, to inspire an entire nation and to write new chapters in their history. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this adventure.
I wish you every success for the future.
My adventure has come to an end.”
