Erick 'Cubo' Torres will not return to Club Sport Herediano once his doping suspension ends in May, the club confirmed to ESPN. President and current head coach Jafet Soto stated that the Mexican striker is not part of the team’s future plans, despite being under contract until December 2025.
Torres was initially suspended for 24 months due to a positive test for Clostebol, though the ban was later reduced to 18 months. Although the forward expressed his desire to rejoin the team, Herediano’s sporting direction—under new director Gustavo Pérez—has already moved on.
The club has all four of its foreign player slots filled, making it impossible to include Torres in the current squad setup. Furthermore, financial support agreed upon earlier had already been withdrawn by late last year. The player, now 32, has also started a new career as a real estate agent in Guanacaste, signaling a potential shift away from Costa Rican football.
Torres is currently based in the United States, training and preparing for his return to the pitch. According to ESPN, he has received interest from Costa Rican clubs such as Santos and Sporting, as well as potential opportunities in the U.S., particularly given his previous stint with Las Vegas Lights. While his next move remains uncertain, it won’t be with the reigning national champions.
