Taiwo Awoniyi Scores and Assists as Coventry City Beat Plymouth 4-2 in Carabao Cup
Taiwo Awoniyi opened his Coventry City goal-scoring account in style, scoring and providing an assist as the Sky Blues defeated Plymouth Argyle 4-2 away from home in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
The Nigeria international needed just three minutes to make his mark, finishing off a pass from Ghanaian youngster Caleb Yirenkyi to give Coventry an early lead.
Awoniyi then turned provider two minutes later, setting up Jack Rudoni to double the visitors' advantage and put Coventry firmly in control.
Plymouth fought back before half-time, with Oliver Irow pulling one back in the 21st minute before Xavier Amaechi completed the comeback by making it 2-2.
Coventry regained the lead in the 67th minute when Ephron Mason-Clark found the net to make it 3-2.
The visitors sealed their place in the next round with 12 minutes remaining after Peter Torp converted a penalty to complete the 4-2 victory.
