On the night of February 15 to 16, 2025, Portuguese and European football lost one of its most influential figures. Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, the former president of FC Porto, passed away at the age of 87. His leadership of the club set numerous records and left an enduring legacy.

Details: Porto’s official press release confirmed the passing of their former president, though the cause of death was not disclosed. The club highlighted that under Pinto da Costa’s leadership, the Dragões ascended to an entirely new level of success.

Serving as Porto’s president from 1982 to 2024, Pinto da Costa’s 42-year tenure remains the longest presidency in football history. With 69 major trophies, he is also the most decorated club president of all time.

During his time in charge, Porto won 23 Primeira Liga titles, 15 Portuguese Cups, 22 Portuguese Super Cups, 1 Portuguese League Cup, 2 European Cups/Champions League titles (1987, 2004), and 2 UEFA Cups/Europa League titles (2003, 2011).

Reminder: In April 2024, Pinto da Costa lost the Porto presidential elections to André Villas-Boas, marking the end of his historic tenure at the club.
