Here we go! Manchester United legend set to join Porto
Chris Smalling is on the verge of returning to European football with one of Portugal's biggest clubs.
Details: According to renowned insider Fabrizio Romano, Porto have reached an agreement to sign the 36-year-old English centre-back as a free agent. The deal is considered done, with Smalling already undergoing his medical ahead of completing the move.
Portuguese outlet Zerozero has also reported that the former Manchester United defender is already in Portugal to sign for the Dragons. Since his previous contract expired, Porto are able to complete the transfer outside the regular transfer window.
Smalling has been without a club since July 1, 2026, following the expiration of his contract with Saudi side Al-Fayha. His arrival would add considerable experience to Porto's defensive options.
It is worth noting that Smalling represented Manchester United from 2010 to 2020, making 323 appearances and scoring 18 goals for the club. The former England international is currently valued at €1 million by Transfermarkt.
