Argentine authorities have raided the headquarters of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and several football clubs as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering.
Details: According to La Nacion, the raids targeted more than 30 clubs, including top sides such as Racing, San Lorenzo, and Independiente, as well as the Argentine Football Association (AFA) itself. The investigation centers around the financial company Sur Finanzas, whose platform allegedly facilitated suspicious money transfers between clubs.
Representatives of Sur Finanzas, the AFA, and the prosecutor's office have yet to comment on the situation. The raids were prompted by a complaint focused on the flow of funds between clubs and the payment services of the company.
The investigation could also intensify the standoff between AFA president Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia and Argentina's president Javier Milei. Milei has advocated for transforming Argentine football clubs—traditionally non-profit organizations—into privately owned commercial entities. The AFA, on the other hand, has resisted legislation that would allow commercial clubs to join the association.
Reminder: Argentine midfielder for Manchester City, currently on loan at Bayer, Claudio Echeverri wants to return to River Plate, but Pep Guardiola has other plans.
