Fabbiani Welcomes Benedetto and Drops a Line That Sums Up Newell’s Transfer Window

Cristian Fabbiani is all smiles after securing Darío Benedetto’s arrival at Newell’s. Speaking at a press conference to kick off preseason training, the manager confirmed the former Boca striker will join the squad this week. According to TyC Sports, Fabbiani played a direct role in the signing: “I went after him myself. I’m happy. I know he’ll bring us a lot of joy.”
As the team works at the Centro Griffa training complex, the coach made it clear that signing a top striker was his priority. “I wanted a No. 9—Benedetto—and they got him for me. From now on, any new signings will have to come cheap because I’ve already had my treat,” he joked.
Alongside Benedetto, midfielder Martín Fernández has also signed. Newell’s is still negotiating with winger Benjamín Bosch, Colombian forward Jhon Córdoba, center-back Carlos Terán, and goalkeeper Facundo Altamirano. Meanwhile, Gaspar Iñíguez remains in training despite not having signed a contract. “He’s lost 22 kilos. Once he’s ready, he’ll sign,” said Fabbiani.
Youth prospects may be on their way out. Mateo Silvetti, already sold to an investment group, is recovering from injury. Tomás Jacob, moved to midfield by Fabbiani, could attract offers. “If he leaves, I’ll be happy to have helped him grow. If he stays, we’ll enjoy him more,” said the coach.
As for veterans, Fabbiani confirmed Keylor Navas will return after international duty and praised Éver Banega’s leadership: “Even playing at 40 percent, he’s key. While he can still walk, he’ll play for me.”
