In his first management position since departing Qatar's Umm Salal, French manager Patrice Carteron has formally assumed leadership of Iranian club Sepahan Esfahan.
The 54-year-old Carteron offers a wealth of experience from his stint in Arab football, having led Saudi clubs Al-Taawoun and Al-Ettifaq, Wadi Degla, Morocco's Raja Casablanca, and Egyptian powerhouses Zamalek and Al Ahly.
According to Tehran Times, Carteron will succeed Portuguese coach José Morais at Sepahan, who currently lead the Iranian league with 21 points after 10 rounds. Meanwhile, South African coach Pitso Mosimane, another former Al Ahly boss, is managing Iranian powerhouse Esteghlal, who sit 10th with 11 points.
Carteron’s move comes amid growing international interest in the Iranian Pro League, where Mosimane continues his impressive run after securing back-to-back CAF Champions League titles with Al Ahly in 2020 and 2021.
Sepahan’s leadership hopes Carteron can maintain their top position as they push for domestic and continental glory.
