On Sunday, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Enyimba International defeated Mozambique's Black Bulls 4-1, finally finding their rhythm in the CAF Confederation Cup group round. To maintain their hopes of qualifying for the continental tournament, the Nigerian team, who had suffered two defeats and a draw in their opening three games, displayed their attacking prowess and tenacity.
The game got off to a spectacular start as Joseph Atule gave Enyimba the lead in the sixth minute. But Black Bulls equalized in the 12th minute thanks to a defensive blunder, bringing the score to 1-1. Ifeanyi Ihemekwele gave Enyimba their second goal of the tournament in the 45th minute, giving them a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Enyimba showed more enthusiasm in the second half. Coach Stanley Eguma's strategic changes paid off when new recruit Brown Ideye scored his first continental goal in the 67th minute, extending the lead to 3-1. In the 89th minute, Atule scored his second goal of the game, securing Enyimba's overwhelming 4-1 victory.
With four points from four games, Enyimba is still at the bottom of Group D, so the win offers them a much-needed boost. Even if their chances of making it to the quarterfinals are minimal, the People's Elephant are still optimistic if they maintain their momentum in their next games against Zamalek and Al Masry.
