Details: Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has explained why he stopped talking about a possible move to Real Madrid. According to the Argentine, right at the height of the rumors, Lionel Messi called him and simply asked if it was true. Enzo replied yes—and heard laughter on the other end.

"When the Real Madrid rumors were everywhere, Messi called me and asked: 'Is it true?' I said yes, and he laughed. He told me: 'Chelsea is a special club. If I ever had the chance, I’d love to play there. Don’t rush into a decision you might regret.' That conversation made me see things differently. Some clubs are more than just trophies—they become family," Enzo Fernández shared.

Speculation surrounding the Argentine lasted almost the entire season: he was linked with Real, Manchester City, Atlético, and even Bayern, and he repeatedly hinted at wanting to live in Madrid. In early July, Real officially denied any negotiations for Enzo, and Xabi Alonso, upon taking over at Chelsea, openly stated he wanted the Argentine in the squad. It now seems the player himself is on board with that vision.

It's worth noting that Enzo Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for €121 million. His contract with the London club runs until 2031, and Transfermarkt currently values the 25-year-old midfielder at €90 million.
