WAFCON 2026: “We will keep working hard,” says Valentine Nguele after Cameroon’s victory over Ghana

The Indomitable Lionesses’ head coach pointed out that her team entered the competition as a lucky loser and emphasised the need to keep up the hard work to go even further in the tournament.

Cameroon continue their impressive run at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Following their victory over Mali on the opening day of Group D, the Indomitable Lionesses beat Ghana on Sunday 2 August and secured their place in the quarter-finals.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, head coach Valentine Nguele praised her team’s performance and promised to keep up the good work.

“We are grateful that we were reinstated. With this status, we are not favourites for this Africa Cup of Nations.

But what I can say is that we will continue to work hard to present a good image of our country. You know, there’s no such thing as football without pressure, so the advice we’re giving the girls is to channel that pressure better so they can go far in the competition.”

Cameroon will play their final group stage match against Cape Verde.
