WAFCON 2026: “We’ve fulfilled our mission,” Michaela Abam relishes Cameroon’s qualification for the quarter-finals

Cameroon’s women’s national team secured their place in the knockout stages of the tournament following their 1-0 victory over Ghana on 2 August during the second matchday of Group D.

The Indomitable Lionesses are thus continuing their impressive run at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. They beat Ghana in their second group stage match to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Following the victory over the Black Queens, Michaela Abam stated that the Cameroon team had achieved its first objective in the competition.

The Cameroonian striker also emphasised that the Indomitable Lionesses will continue their campaign with the same commitment.

“We have fulfilled our mission, which was to qualify for the next round. We’re carrying on with this mindset. We’re moving forward. We’re continuing to build. Ghana have always had a strong squad.

They have talented players; I know a few of them. It’s always a pleasure to play at this level against a team of such quality. It’s great because we got the result we wanted today.”
