A friendly match between England and Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place at St James' Park in Newcastle on 3 June.

The teams are approaching this meeting with slightly different objectives. The English have a goal to prepare well for the European Championship. But the Bosniaks, after their elimination in the play-offs of the Euro qualification from Ukraine, will gather only for friendly matches.

The English press reports that the manager of the "Three Lions" Gareth Southgate intends to use a somewhat experimental line-up in this match. Mark Gahi and Lewis Dunk should make up a pair of centre-backs, amid kit problems for Harry Maguire.

Another Manchester United player, namely Luke Shaw, is also not ready. Kieran Trippier will take the captain's armband, while Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to play in midfield instead of his usual right-back position.

Southgate still intends to let understudy Harry Kane prove himself by leaving him on the bench. Either Ollie Watkins or Ivan Toney will take their place in the main England squad at the cutting edge of the attack.

Bosnian head coach Sergej Barbarez will be able to count on an optimal squad, given his country's top stars Edin Dzeko and Rade Krunic. But, this match, as well as the subsequent friendly against Italy on 7 June, will be treated as part of the preparation for the autumn UEFA Nations League matches.

It is noteworthy that England and Bosnia and Herzegovina have not met each other before, neither in Confirmed matches nor in friendlies.
