Crystal Palace defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final and were already preparing for their Europa League campaign. However, the Eagles may not be able to make their debut in the group stage of European competitions after all.

Details: According to the Daily Mail, the issue lies in the multi-club ownership of Crystal Palace by John Textor, who also owns two other European contenders: Lyon, Crystal Palace, and Danish side Brøndby.

Lyon and Crystal Palace are both set to play in the Europa League, but UEFA rules state that when two clubs with the same owner qualify for the same competition, only the team that finished higher in its domestic league can participate. In this case, Lyon takes the Europa League spot, having finished sixth in Ligue 1, compared to Crystal Palace's 12th-place finish in the Premier League.

Representatives of the English club will hold consultations with UEFA officials on Thursday to try to resolve the issue. Even a potential move for Crystal Palace to the Conference League would not solve the problem, as Brøndby is already set to compete there. If the Eagles are ultimately not allowed to play in European competitions, their spot will go to Brighton.

Reminder: Crystal Palace became one of nine English representatives in European competitions. Aston Villa, who finished sixth in the league, will also play in the Europa League.
