Birmingham-based Aston Villa and its supporters have made headlines after the club announced a significant increase in ticket prices for Champions League matches.

Details: Ticket prices for Aston Villa's home matches in Europe's most prestigious club competition have reached up to £97. This decision sparked a wave of outrage among fans and a storm of discontent on social media.

Villa's President of Business Operations, Chris Heck, issued a statement on Tuesday apologizing to fans for the controversial pricing system. He explained that financial fair play rules compel the club to "generate as much revenue as possible" to achieve its sporting goals.

Quote: "We want to apologize to everyone on the waiting list and to those supporters who were unable to book seats for the match against Bayern. We acknowledge and understand the passion that our fans feel and their recent frustration over ticket prices.

Achieving our sporting ambitions while maintaining financial stability requires making tough decisions. Financial fair play rules prevent owners from covering deficits to finance these ambitions.

Therefore, we need to maximize revenue through sponsorships, merchandise, and ticket sales to keep the club where it rightfully belongs — competing (and winning) at the top of English and European football," said the manager in the statement.

Recall: Villa will host Bayern Munich, Bologna, Juventus, and Celtic at their home stadium after returning to the Champions League for the first time in 41 years. Unai Emery's team will face Bayern on October 2nd.
