Can Rennes break Nice's unbeaten home run? Nice vs Rennes prediction – 30.10.2026
Nice and Rennes meet at the Allianz Riviera on Friday, October 30, in Matchday 9 of Ligue 1. The fixture was originally scheduled for October 31 but was moved forward to Friday at 19:00 local time at the request of the Alpes-Maritimes authorities. Nice enter the game with renewed confidence after an important away victory, while Rennes arrive on the Côte d’Azur sitting second in the standings.
Nice: Pantaloni's side are much more convincing at home
Nice have collected 11 points from their opening eight league matches and sit tenth with a goal difference of 8-10. Olivier Pantaloni's team have not been particularly prolific, but their recent results show clear improvement: they beat Lille and Strasbourg 2-1 at home before recovering from a 2-1 defeat at Lyon by winning 2-1 away to Brest.
The Brest victory was especially encouraging. Nice went behind early, but Elye Wahi equalised in the second half before Sofiane Diop scored the winner. Goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf then saved a stoppage-time penalty. Wahi has now scored in successive league matches after also finding the net against Lyon, and his improving form gives Nice a much-needed focal point in attack.
Home advantage should not be underestimated either. Nice remain unbeaten at the Allianz Riviera this Ligue 1 season, and their last two home games ended in victories over Lille and Strasbourg. Pantaloni's side are generally more aggressive and comfortable when they can push their wing-backs high and keep opponents inside their own half.
There are, however, important personnel questions in defence. Alidu Seidu, who is on loan from Rennes, is not expected to be eligible to face his parent club because of a clause in the loan agreement. Jonathan Clauss is in a much better situation than initially feared: after leaving the Brest game with an ankle problem, he returned to full team training and could be available. Ali Abdi, meanwhile, has only recently resumed work after another physical setback and is unlikely to be rushed back.
Rennes: second place and an attack capable of punishing any mistake
Rennes are second with 16 points after eight rounds, having scored 18 goals and conceded 14. Franck Haise's team responded emphatically to their 4-3 defeat at Paris FC: they earned a 2-2 draw away to Juventus in the Europa League and then swept Strasbourg aside 3-0 at Roazhon Park. Sebastian Szymański scored twice against Strasbourg, while Boulaye Dia opened the scoring.
Haise has plenty of tactical flexibility. Rennes can defend with three centre-backs, use aggressive wing-backs and then attack quickly through Szymański, Mousa Al-Tamari and Dia. Against Strasbourg, the 5-3-2 structure gave them defensive security without taking away their ability to create chances.
The biggest question remains Estéban Lepaul. The striker has scored seven Ligue 1 goals this season but suffered an ankle sprain against Paris FC and subsequently missed both Juventus and Strasbourg. Haise said the injury was not considered serious, although no exact return date had been set, making Lepaul's participation in Nice uncertain as of October 28.
Even without their leading scorer, Rennes have shown they can produce goals. Dia and Al-Tamari scored in Turin, while Dia and Szymański decided the Strasbourg game. That variety is particularly important against a Nice side that may have to reshape the right side of its defence without Seidu.
Probable lineups

Rennes have the higher ceiling, but Nice's home record makes protection valuable
Nice are beginning to look more stable under Pantaloni. The victory in Brest showed character, Wahi is finding goals, and returning to an Allianz Riviera where they remain unbeaten is a significant advantage.
Still, Rennes appear to have more ways to decide this match. Haise's squad has considerably greater attacking output, Szymański and Dia are in good form, and the visitors have just followed an impressive draw in Turin with a convincing 3-0 league victory.
A straight Rennes win is tempting, but Nice's home record makes the draw a genuine danger. The more balanced option is therefore to side with the visitors while receiving protection if the match finishes level.
Prediction: Rennes draw no bet.
